In 2023 and 2024 I wrote a series of 24 history-themed videos for the Public Education Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about federal agencies. The project presented a fascinating challenge.

I was provided with a packet of research on each agency. Supplementing that with my own research, I would write a five-minute video, aimed at a general audience, about the agency’s history and significance to American life.

At right is a video on the obscure federal agency that gives names to places, which I found particularly interesting. You can also see the scope of the entire project.

I created a website about history for About.com and wrote, edited, and maintained it for a dozen years. During that time I wrote everything from extensive articles about major historical events to quirky blog posts and weekly newsletters that related events in history to events in the news.

I scaled up the site from literally zero pageviews to millions. Much of that writing still exists online (after a sale, a merger, and a few corporate name changes) and you can read examples of it.

I’ve taken on a variety of writing projects over the past few years. I recently concluded a multi-year contractor’s role with Glassdoor, prolifically creating content as part of a social media team. The work was fast-paced and often quite interesting, and my colleagues were great to work with, but I can’t say much more due to the usual corporate confidentiality agreements.

In recent years I’ve also written corporate blogs, self-published a book on Amazon as a fun experiment, written articles for various clients, and published a few personal essays on Medium. I’ve collected some of those miscellaneous projects.
